Senior Backend Engineer (Java / AIoT)

Paapeli builds a platform that connects devices, processes their data and makes industries and businesses smarter. We are looking for a senior backend engineer to take technical ownership of the AIoT product's backend and to have a direct hand in its architecture, development and reliability.

Responsibilities

Take technical ownership of the AIoT platform backend: learn the existing codebase, then maintain and extend it in Java and Spring Boot
Design and build the APIs and services behind device management, telemetry, alarms and device commands
Extend the integration layer over the platform's IoT core and the MQTT path that device data arrives on
Build and harden multi-tenancy, authentication and role based access control
Improve the performance, security, reliability and observability of services in production
Design data models and optimise the database and asynchronous processing
Bring AI capabilities into the product together with the AI team
Document technical decisions, review code and set the engineering standards of the backend team

Requirements

Dependability and ownership: seeing commitments through, raising delays early, and working without needing close follow up
Genuine motivation and commitment to building this product and growing with the team over the long term
At least 5 years of experience building and running production services in Java and Spring Boot
Strong system design skills: APIs, data modelling, access control, multi-tenancy and event driven services
Able to debug production issues from logs and performance metrics
Effective use of AI tools in software development, with careful and responsible review of their output
Able to take over and understand an existing codebase, drive work independently and discuss technical disagreements constructively

Nice to have

Experience with MQTT, time series data and stream processing
A background in device data ingestion, device fleet management or OTA updates
Experience designing rule, alarm and notification engines
Practical familiarity with AI model APIs and inference services

Senior Go Developer (Cloud Management)

Cloud Management is the layer every Paapeli product stands on: accounts and workspaces, access, the wallet and usage. We are looking for a senior Go developer to design and build the core modules of that layer and take technical ownership of it.

Responsibilities

Design and build the core cloud management modules in Go, and take technical ownership of them
Implement multi-tenancy: organisations, workspaces, membership and invitations, with tenant data fully isolated
Build the identity and access layer: RBAC, roles and permissions, API keys and session management
Build the wallet and billing: top ups, transactions, invoices, subscriptions and the payment gateway integration
Build usage metering, quotas and quota alerts
Design stable, documented APIs for the panel and the other Paapeli products to use
Own the security, audit logging, reliability and observability of the services
Document technical decisions, review code and set the team's engineering standards

Requirements

A deep understanding of data correctness in financial systems: transactions, idempotency and consistency
Able to debug production issues from logs and performance metrics
Effective use of AI tools in software development, with careful and responsible review of their output
Able to take over and understand an existing codebase, drive work independently and discuss technical disagreements constructively

Nice to have

Experience building a cloud platform or working in a cloud team (cloud provider, PaaS or multi-tenant SaaS)
Experience building billing, wallet or usage metering systems
Experience integrating payment gateways
Experience with SSO, two factor authentication and audit logs
Experience with gRPC and communication between services
Experience designing white label products
